DoubleTree Hotel Commercial | Campbell, CA Pruneyard Plaza

We were super excited when the DoubleTree Hotel in Campbell in the Pruneyard Plaza approached us to update their existing promo video to reflect their recent renovations, their new app that allows guests to check into their room without going to the front desk, and nearby Silicon Valley attractions.

This commercial required 8 days of filming due to the wide variety of locations and scenes. The Documentarists provided services for every component of the commercial, from script revisions, to producing and directing the voice over, to filming and editing. The shoots were done with a two-person crew: one cinematographer and one director. For the aerials, we used the DJI Mavic Pro, and the main cinematography was done with the Canon C100mkII and Canon L-series zoom lenses.

In addition to this video playing on DoubleTree Campbell social media channels and their website, it will also be played on the TVs in all of their hotel rooms. With such a wide potential reach, we wanted to create a feeling of natural and authentic fun that matched the DoubleTree brand; to create a video that would be welcoming to both families and business guests alike. And to create something with energy that will hold the viewers attention and bring many new customers to the hotel.

QUIANNA MARIE PHOTOGRAPHY BRAND STORIES | Santa Clara, CA

Quianna Marie is a super talented Bay Area photographer who commissioned us to create a series of brand stories for her website and social media. In two hours of filming in the interior location, and one hour of filming in the second location, we were able to create a full 2-minute brand promo for her website, plus two 50-second minidocs for her Instagram account. For this project, we recorded an audio voice-over with Quianna, along with a live interview as she showed us her photo board. We used a Canon C100k2 and primarily stayed with the Canon 24-70 v2 f2.8 lens. We also utilized our Ronin-m gimbal for the walking shots.

You can see the video on her website in the "About" section, after clicking on "Read More," here.

Lafferty Homes Video Tours - Oakdale, CA

For this project, we were commissioned by Lafferty Homes to capture a smooth and cinematic experience of walking through two of their latest beautiful homes in Oakdale, California. Our goal was to capture all of the best features of the homes, interiors and exteriors, to bring a home walkthrough experience to prospective home buyers that are unable to view the property in person.

To achieve a high dynamic range, we always film our video tours in the flat C-log picture profile, and monitor our image with our SmallHD501 monitor, which lets us preview a LUT on the footage that emulates the look of the final product. This way, windows are not too bright, but interior walls have lots of detail. This project was a lot of fun, and the images turned out really well.

Lincoln Park Grand Opening | Monterey, CA

We were hired to capture photos and video for this inspiring park grand opening for Century Communities. It was great to be a part of such a positive community event. For this project, we used a Canon 6d with Canon 16-35mm and 100mm Macro lens for photography, and then for video, we used two Canon 5d mark IVs with Canon 24-70mm and Canon 70-200mm lenses.

Century Communities Video Tours | Monterey, CA

A series of video walkthroughs at Century Community's East Garrison home community.

For this project, we were hired by Century Communities to film a series of three model homes in Monterey, California. We filmed all three homes in about 4 hours. We primarily used a C100 mk II on a Ronin-m 3-axis gimbal with a Tokina 11-20mm f2.8 lens.

We love filming and editing in beautifully staged homes like this one. It really makes you want to live there! Stay tuned for more beautiful real estate videos.

Quianna Marie Photography Styled Shoot | MOrgan Hill, CA

Quianna Marie of Quianna Marie Photography is an incredibly talented photographer from San Jose, California who recently decided to expand one section of her photography business into education for other photographers.

Quianna put together an amazing styled shoot at Guglielmo Winery in Morgan Hill, CA with the collaboration of top local wedding vendors. She then enlisted The Documentarists to capture the styled shoot, while also documenting behind the scenes of her educating the students.

The photographs from the day ended up getting featured in the bridal publication Borrowed and Blue. You can check out the feature here!

As for our process, we employed two of our workhorse documentary cameras, the Canon C100 and Canon C100 mark II to capture the action, trying to strike a balance between cinematic and stylistic shots of the models with lens flares and slow motion, along with documentary-style behind the scenes shots of the students and Quianna. We brought along our trusty Rhino Carbon Core Slider to get an interesting perspective on the decor. The built-in ND filters on the C100s definitely came in handy out in the harsh sunlight.

In the end, we managed to create a video that will help Quianna attract more potential students for her educational brand, while also providing tons of exposure for the Bay Area wedding vendors who were involved. All in all, the video was a fantastic success.
